Immigration Services
On June 8th, we proudly marked the one-year anniversary of the Center’s Immigration Program. Over the past year, we have achieved notable successes, including helping a couple obtain their residency, assisting a resident in becoming a U.S. citizen, renewing DACA applications, and providing guidance to individuals seeking asylum.
Education
The Latino Advocacy Coalition of Henderson County offers an education program emphasizing the importance of learning, particularly for the minority community. We are committed to empowering individuals through accessible and comprehensive educational opportunities.
About Us
Our History
The Latino Advocacy Coalition (El Centro) has founded on June 1st of 1998 we are a nonprofit organization in Henderson County and surrounding areas. We have been advocating and cultivating the dawn of a new day by enriching relationships, empowering people, and promoting justice for our community. We create inclusive services for the Latinx community by developing grassroots leaders and working together to access community resources. El Centro seeks to build a welcoming and just space where everyone is treated with dignity, value, and respect.
Our Mission
Latino Advocacy Coalition of Henderson County (El Centro) is an organization by and for the Latinx community. We advocate for equality in Henderson and surrounding counties. The purpose of El Centro is to cultivate the dawn of a new day by enriching relationships, empowering people, and promoting a just community for everyone.
We create a more inclusive community for Latinxs by providing unique services, developing grassroots leaders, and working together to access community resources. El Centro seeks to keep building a welcoming and just space where everyone is treated with dignity, valued and respected.

Meet Our Board
Belem Solano
Member
Ms. Solano has years of experience working in non-profits advocating for the Hispanic community. She previously work at Interfaith Ministry with their Mobile Pantry and food distribution program. Currently she works at Advent Health.
Belem Solano has recently joined us as a new board member. Belem is a current member of the Hendersonville community and has long standing ties in here.
Angie Peña, Esq.
Chair
Attorney Peña has years of experience advocating for the Hispanic community. She is passionate about immigration and immigrant’s rights. She was previously the President of the Board of Directors of Farmworker Ministry, Inc. (FMI) located in Auburndale, Florida and has worked with nationally recognized Young American Dreamers, Inc. (YAD). Currently she works at Pisgah Legal Services, a local non-profit, advocating for the immigrant’s rights of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Victim. She is also a member of the Polk County Health Advisory Committee and a non-voting Agency Representative on the board of The United Way.
Nancy Díaz
Secretary
Ms. Díaz is a young professional, passionate about racial, economic, and gender equity, comprehensive immigration reform, access to higher education, and environmental justice. She was born and raised in Henderson County to Mexican immigrants with her 2 sisters. Mr. Díaz is currently the Southern Regional Director for MountainTrue, and serves on the City of Hendersonville’s Diversity Inclusion Advisory Committee and the Henderson County Environmental Advisory Committee.
Terrell Brown
Treasurer
Mr. Brown currently works at Blue Ridge Community College and formerly worked at Children and Family Resource Center in Hendersonville as a bilingual Parent Educator. He is a community advocate and has a background in mentoring youth at the Henderson County Boys & Girls Club. Growing up In Henderson County he has a passion to empower communities of color and help eliminate barriers to access in our community.
