Mission
Organizational Mission: The purpose of the Latino Advocacy Coalition is to cultivate the dawn of a new day by enriching relationships, empowering people and promoting a just community for all. We fulfill our mission by focusing on 6 organizational core values which include: Justice, Integration, Education, Family Values, Public Relations, and Self-Sufficiency
The vision statements for these core values are as follows:
- Justice: To create a fair and just community by advocating, educating and building alliances
-Integration: To promote the inclusion process of Latinos to the community as whole
- Education: To provide access to educational opportunities for the individuals we serve
- Family Values: To preserve the richness and integrity of the Latino family culture
- Public Relations: To serve as a bridge between the Latino and broader communities and provide a central voice for Latinos
- Self- Sufficiency: To foster self reliance in our constituency through programs and advocacy services; LAC will continue to minimize losses while pursuing profitable income generation strategies
Goals for the above values include:
Justice
Current Reality: In 2007 LAC served 296 people through our Justice Programs which included: Translation and Interpretation 135, Workers Rights 54, Immigration and Legal Assistance 107.
Ideal Reality: LAC plans to serve in 2008, 450 individuals through the following programs: Interpretation and Translation 150, Workers Rights 100, Immigration and Legal Assistance 200, Create an Advocacy Plan of Families United (2nd part), and create an Interpreters List.
Education
Current Reality : In 2007 LAC was able to serve 91 individuals through GED, Basic Computer Skills, Typing and Internet for moms.
Ideal Reality: To serve 149 individuals through our education
programs and adding two new classes ESL and Spanish.
Family Values
Current Reality: In 2007 LAC served 595 individuals through programming related to promoting the integrity of the family. These programs included: Latino College Day 75, Families United 101, Dia del Nino 300, Posada 65, Health screenings 54.
Ideal Reality: In 2008 LAC plans to serve 1,089 individuals through the following programs: Latino College Day 85, Families United 250, Dia del Nino 500, La Pastorela 100, Posada 50, Health Screening 54, and Youth Empowerment Project 50.
Public Relations
Current Reality: In 2007 LAC served 207 participants through LINK and made the press 33 times.
Ideal Reality: In 2008 LAC would like to serve an average of 25 participants through each LINK meeting (12 a year), make the news 50 times, and develop 3 new collaborations and partnerships.
